Merry Christmas TTW family!

Pastor Kris here with some a few updates and lots of gratitude as we move into Christmas. We just sent out lots of our new TTW T-shirts, and we're still taking orders through New Years day. Details on that below. As for our donation match campaign, we met our goals early! More on that below too, along with information on our annual Christmas audio drama called The Shepherd of Bethlehem, and our annual TTW Ministry Update for 2020. It's all here, so keep reading!

The Shepherd of Bethlehem (Audio Drama)

Just in time for Christmas, we have a very powerful audio drama that's perfect for the season. The Shepherd of Bethlehem is a a dramatic retelling of the Christmas story from an eyewitness perspective. The story is told by a shepherd named Josiah, who happened to be watching his sheep on the hills outside Bethlehem on that fateful night when a host of angels appeared with some very big news. This one man audio drama in two acts was written and performed by Bill Welsh (TTW Acts audio guides), and it's one of my favorite holiday traditions.

You can find the Shepherd of Bethlehem plan on the TTW Browse page in the New and Updated section. It's a two day plan, and the audio is about 30 minutes each day. Perfect for listening with family, for your drive time to grandma's house, or wherever this busy season gives you a little time to stop and listen. And in other holiday news...

T-Shirts Mailed - Get Yours Before they're Gone!

TTW T-shirts are free for every donor this year! We just mailed the first big batch of t-shirts (over 1400!). If you ordered by the December 11 deadline, you should have them in time for Christmas (shipping outside the US is slow - so expect delays). The deadline for orders is New Years day, and the next batch will be mailed after the last order is in Jan 1. We  only do this once a year, so get your order in now...

We reached our goal early! Lots of gratitude to everyone who donated this month and to our donation-match sponsors, as $172k in general giving came in since we started in Thanksgiving. Every one of those dollars is now being matched by a few of our generous donors! And what's more, for every dollar donated in 2020, TTW has seen 400 minutes of Bible engagement. That means every $25 donation brought us 10,000 minutes of Bible engagement! Thanks so much for a successful campaign and for all your generosity, and we are now provided with the funds that we need to step into some very big opportunities that have opened up for 2021. More on that soon!

New Plans in Judges, Kings, & Chronicles!

Hey Through the Word family! Hope you and your loved ones are doing well and staying strong in the Lord through all the challenges and trials that 2020 throws at us. Pastor Kris here with your latest news and updates on all things TTW, and I'm so excited about this one...

New Plans in Judges, 1 Kings & 1 Chronicles!

We have several new reading plans, and a whole bunch of new audio guides! Peyton Jones has been recording new content through several Old Testament books of history over the last year, and we finally have them live for you. The new plans include Joshua, Judges, 1st Kings, and 1st Chronicles. You can find them on the Browse Page under Old Testament, where you should now see two plans for each of those books. Hope you enjoy the new guides!

Why are there two plans for the same book? Great question! TTW has reading plans and audio guides for every book in the Bible. However, not every book has original TTW guides - at least not yet. For the Bible books that don't have original guides, we have borrowed teaching from sermons by outstanding teachers like Sandy Adams and Skip Heitzig. Those guides are great, but our ultimate goal is to produce original TTW guides for every Bible book. The Bible has 66 books and 1189 chapters, so recording original audio guides is a work in progress! But thanks to hard work by our teachers and our audio team, with great support from donors in our sponsor-a-chapter campaign, we're making great progress! So with the new reading plans in Joshua, Judges, etc. we are adding the plans but leaving the borrowed plans in place so that you have two options to choose from. In the future, we will organize the interface so that it will be easier to see which is TTW original and which are from sermons, but for now, just choose your favorite teacher, or try listening to both!

More Plans on the Way! We are getting some great studio time lately, as Jonathan Ferguson and I have been finishing out Exodus, and Peyton Jones is recording 2nd Chronicles. We also have more topical plans on the way in our Bible Basics Explained series, with plans on Prayer, Forgiveness, Marriage, and more to come. It all started with a little idea: 

• Read the verse of the day at extraordinary locations...
• Record it for social media...
• Hashtag it for everyone to share with #verseoftheday

The heart of the idea is simple: speak God's Word all over God's world. And we hope it catches on! Just imagine - people all over the world reading the same verse on the same day, and capturing it to share on social media. But that's getting ahead of ourselves. First we had to get some videos ready to start things off. We wanted to capture some great locations, so we decided it was time for... a road trip!

So last month I hit the road with my family in an RV for two weeks, driving the phenomenal Pacific coastline from Southern California all the way to the northern border of Washington. We visited a bunch of amazing national parks and landmarks along the way - from Redwoods to the Oregon Coast to Olympic - and at every beautiful location we stopped to read a Verse of the Day and capture it all on video to share with you. The trip was amazing, and now we're posting the sights for all of you to enjoy. So go check it out!  Hello TTW Family - 

Pastor Kris here with some quick news and updates. First off, big thanks to everyone who donated as part of our TTW Journal promo. Thanks to you, this was our biggest promo yet, and we will be sending out more than a thousand journals! That also means that we ran out of our first batch, so we've already ordered more and we'll be sending those out in the a couple weeks. If you ordered either one or two journals before August 6, you should get yours in the mail this week (international will take longer). The rest will send out as soon as our next shipment comes in. TTW is back in the app store again with some essential fixes and upgrades. Recent updates to the Android OS created issues for the TTW app, so we pulled it to make necessary fixes. It's back now - but if your app still experiences trouble, please let us know at help@throughtheword.org. Thanks so much! Get Android here: TTW App in Google Play Store.

iPhone App Update = Lots of Player Fixes
We just launched a major update to our iPhone app with a bunch of great fixes and upgrades to the audio player. The Android update is in the works now, so please pray for our programmer Zach as he makes progress there. Here is a list of the upgrades you'll find:
 - Bluetooth: Works great in your car, on Alexa, etc.
 - Lockscreen Audio Player: Now you can pause, ffwd, etc from your iPhone lock screen
 - Autoplay: Now the autoplay keeps going when your screen is locked or dark.
 - PreAudio: Won't keep playing repeatedly on the same plan.
 - Get the TTW update in the iPhone App Store

Journals Going Out - & Last Day to Order!

We had a great response to our TTW Journal giveaway in July. In fact, we ran out! So we decided to order another batch and give you just a few more days to order. So here's what that means: 

• If you already ordered: We're putting them in the mail this weekend. 
• Some orders (made after Aug 6 & some multiple orders) will have to wait a couple weeks until we restock. 
• If you want to order: The last day to order is TuesdayAugust 10.

I was so thankful for the time together as we got to open the Word and talk through our experiences and trials and find God's love and understanding. The plan walks through Daisy's favorite Psalm, and in it I share much of what God taught me - through Psalm 139, through my daughter's trials, and through my own experience with anxiety. I hope that the plan will be an encouragement to you. You can find it on the TTW app (see screenshot) and also on the YouVersion Bible app here: https://bible.com/reading-plans/20472 (the YouVersion plan also comes with the text and follow up questions for discussion).

TTW Journals for July Donors!

For all of you who've been asking about TTW merchandise, and for anyone who wants to start (or restart) a good journaling habit, we've got just the thing! It's our first ever paper TTW Journal - with the TTW logo imprinted right on the cover. It's the perfect place to do your Bible journaling, record a daily diary, or keep a prayer log. We're sending them out free to anyone who donates to TTW in July. If you'd like to receive one, the instructions are simple:

New Plans on Faith & Anxiety. Plus Android is back!

Hello TTW! Hope you are doing well and blessed. Pastor Kris here with a couple quick updates - including some brand new plans for you to check out on TTW. We launched a whole new series, and we also fixed and updated the TTW Android app. Check out the news below...

New Plans on Faith & Anxiety!

We just launched the first three plans in a brand new series of topical plans called Bible Basics Explained. We're kicking it off with plans on Anxiety (parts 1 & 2) and Faith. These plans have been in the works for a long time now, and I am so excited to finally see them launched! You can find the new plans on the Browse page under "Bible Topics & Extras" (see the screen shot below). 

And there are more BBE plans in the works - on essential topics like peace, forgiveness, the Ten Commandments, science, and more. Part one on the Anxiety plan was a labor of love for me, as I had the opportunity to work together with my young-adult daughter who has wrestled with anxiety issues for most of her life. I was so thankful for the time together as we got to open the Word and talk through our experiences and trials and find God's love and understanding. The plan walks through Daisy's favorite Psalm, and in it I share much of what God taught me - through Psalm 139, through my daughter's trials, and through my own experience with anxiety. I hope that the plan will be an encouragement to you. TTW Android is back! 

TTW is back in the app store again with some essential fixes and upgrades. Recent updates to the Android OS created issues for the TTW app, so we pulled it to make necessary fixes. We just launched a major update to our iPhone app with a bunch of great fixes and upgrades to the audio player. The Android update is in the works now, so please pray for our programmer Zach as he makes progress there. Here is a list of the upgrades you'll find:
 - Bluetooth: Works great in your car, on Alexa, etc.
 - Lockscreen Audio Player: Now you can pause, ffwd, etc from your iPhone lock screen
 - Autoplay: Now the autoplay keeps going when your screen is locked or dark.
 - PreAudio: Won't keep playing repeatedly on the same plan.
 - Get the TTW update in the iPhone App Store

George Floyd, Injustice, & the Bible

Hello TTW family! Pastor Kris here. There's a lot of hurt going on in my country right now. I don't have all the answers, but I do hope to bring some compassion and understanding. This last Sunday at my church (still meeting online), I invited some good friends to open the Word with me, and we talked openly about injustice and race relations - from the Word and in our world. Journey #'s are Changing by One!
As of last Tuesday, all Journey numbers just went up by one number. That's because we added a new Journey #1! Well, technically we split the old Journey #2, and moved half of it to Journey #1. So now there will be a total of 19 Journeys instead of 18. Now the new 19 Journeys start like this:
  Journey #1 | Start (Mark & Colossians. Formerly part of Foundations).
  Journey #2 | The Big Picture (Overview the Bible. Formerly Journey #1)
  Journey #3 | Foundations (Genesis, Daniel, Romans)
     - Note that Daniel was added and Mark & Colossians moved to J#1.
  Journey #4 | Law & Grace (unchanged)...
  The rest are the same as before, just bumped up by one number.
If you were subscribed to Foundations... your progress should be saved, but your plan has now been split into two parts (the new Journey #1 | Start, and Journey #3 | Foundations).
Note: If you don't see those plans on your Home page, go to the Browse page and subscribe again. Your progress will still be there, but the app may have unsubscribed you by accident when the update was made. 

If you were subscribed to any other Journey... you don't need to do anything. The journey number will automatically go up by one.

Here's why we made the update: After much prayer and careful consideration, we decided that brand new listeners should start their Bible journey with the story of Jesus - before they get an overview of the whole Bible. The change will also bring the app Journeys onto the same plan that we are now launching on YouVersion and our new Bible Audio Guide Podcast, so that all platforms have the same plans. We do apologize for any confusion, and appreciate your understanding as we take this important step moving forward. All the TTW Audio Guides that you love are now going onto a brand new podcast. We're calling it: The Bible Audio Guide Podcast. It has the same great Audio Guides that you find on TTW, and each season on the podcast will be one of our Journeys on the TTW app. Journey 1 is up now!
